Star Wars: The Old Republic is a massively multiplayer online game published by Electronic Arts and developed by BioWare. It is scheduled to be released sometime in 2011 in the US, Europe and Japan.
Set thousands of years before the rise of Darth Vader and 300 years after the events of Knights of the Old Republic, Star Wars: The Old Republic is a new online RPG that lets players create their own characters in the Star Wars universe and play with other people online.
A traditionally styled Massively Multiplayer Online (MMO) game like World of Warcraft, The Old Republic will let players choose between allying with the Republic or the evil Sith Empire. Players will be able to choose to be Jedi, Sith or other classic roles in the Star Wars universe and tell their own personal stories as they go down the dark or light side of the force. As they progress through the game, players can team up with other players to form groups and overcome special challenges with Star Wars style combat.
Though the entire game is played online in a multiplayer environment, there are several ways players will explore this multiplayer online Star Wars adventure. The Old Republic lets players team up with other players to fight enemies or journey with companion characters who will assist the player or betray them depending on how the game is played. No matter how players want to go through the game, they’ll be able to find the play style that’s right for them in order to make this one of the most immersive and satisfying Star Wars games
